SUN Bucks
Summer means the return of the Massachusetts SUN Bucks programs. SUN Bucks (Summer EBT) is a federal food benefit that helps low-income families with school-aged children buy food when schools are closed for the summer.
Who is eligible for SUN Bucks?
Students qualify for SUN Bucks if, during the 2024-2025 school year (starting July 1, 2024), they:
Got SNAP, DTA cash benefits, SSI with a relative caregiver, or certain types of MassHealth coverage, or were in foster care; AND
Were enrolled in the National School Lunch Program/School Breakfast Program school
OR
Got SNAP, DTA cash benefits, SSI with a relative caregiver, or certain types of MassHealth coverage, or were in foster care; AND
They are between the ages of 6 and 16
OR
They were approved for SUN Bucks or NSLP/SBP through an application
Do I need to apply for SUN Bucks?
Most families do not need to apply. DTA will issue SUN Bucks benefits automatically to those families who are eligible.
How do I apply for SUN Bucks?
Families who are not automatically enrolled can apply online at DTA Connect or through a paper application.

How much money will my student get for SUN Bucks?
SUN Bucks provides $40.00 a month to qualified students for three summer months. DTA will issue a one-time payment of $120.00 to eligible students.
How do I create a PIN for my SUN Bucks card?
To set a PIN number call the number on the back of the card (1-800-997-2555) and follow the prompts. You will need your case number (which begins with the numbers 8 and 0) from the approval notice from DTA and the birthday of the person whose name is on the SUN Bucks card.
