January is a busy month for music in the Braintree elementary schools! The All Town Chorus concert took place on January 11th, and was a huge success. Selected fifth graders from all over Braintree performed, in addition to the Middle School Concert Choirs, and the High School Concert Choir. Approximately 300 students performed in this special concert.
Fourth and fifth grade Band and String students are busy preparing for their All Town concerts in March. Please make sure that your child remembers their instrument on their lesson day, and practices their music for these wonderful concerts.
In Grades Four and Five, all students have been learning about drumming: proper grip of drumsticks, different strokes, varied rhythms, and how to play together as a group. This unit provides ample opportunity for solos and improvisation, and also explores drumming in other cultures.
Third grade recorder classes have begun, and students already know four or five songs. They are now reading whole, half, quarter, and eighth notes, and the notes "B", "A", and "G". Please encourage practice at home, and remind them to keep their recorders in their backpacks so as not to forget them on lesson day.
Grades K-2 have been learning songs about Martin Luther King, and continue to explore rhythm, melody, and basic music concepts.
