Highlands Elementary

Notes from Dr. Pelletier

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope that everyone had a great vacation and you are ready for the last two months before our summer break. Just before we left for April vacation, we had a special pajama day for St. Jude. Our students really “Hopped on the Hope Train” to support this wonderful charity. A total of $1803.55 was raised! We continue to be so grateful for the wonderful families that make up our school. Your kindness and generosity set such a positive example for your children.

Our “Walking 26.2 Miles” challenge is still going on. Thank you for sending in pictures of your family taking strolls at many different places. Remember, once your family completes the challenge, your child should return the sneaker recording sheet. We’ll send home a large sneaker that you can decorate and return to school. We have numerous sneakers proudly displayed on our walls. Highlands families are certainly moving!

Students in Grades 3, 4, & 5 continue to work hard and put forth great effort on the MCAS assessments. We are very proud of our students. The ELA assessments are completed first, next the students will be taking the mathematics portion of the test. Finally, grade 5 will take science and technology on May 17th.

Calling out for anyone interested in tending to our garden during the summer months. We will soon be planting some vegetable plants and the garden beds need to be weeded on a regular basis throughout the summer months. Mr. Kramer will make sure that the garden is watered; we just need some help tending to the plants. Please let me know if you are interested. If I get an overwhelming response, I can set up a schedule and you would only have to tend to the garden for one week. Please let me know if you have a “green thumb” and want to put it to good use.

Sincerely, Dr. Pelletier
